Wallkill Valley Rail Trail

nicest crushed stone trail ever

Section from New Paltz (and maybe a mile or two below, I haven’t checked) to a mile or so north of the Rosendale Trestle is superb. Just after the Women’s Studio Workshop is an interesting historical furnace chimney. But then the trail comes apart - chunky gravel and hills I wouldn’t want to come down, leading to Williams Lake (saw lots of landscaping going on but no one using that end of it recreationally). I returned to the Women’s Studiovia the road.

D&H Rail Trail

I have ridden from Lansboro to Steven's Point several times. I'm from the area and can't find the trail from Steven's Point to Starucca. Where can I pick up the trail to Starucca.

A fairly easy ride with wonderful scenery and an abundance of entry points along the trail.

Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail

has potential to one of the best trails in mid Atlantic

Parts of this trail are incredible. You feel like an early pioneer venturing out beyond the frontier. You are stunned by the natural beauty of the Delaware river. You imagine the grinding of receding glaciers that carved this beauty. You hear the echos of an earlier time. The forest is dense, lush and alive. Groundhogs greet you. Birdsong awaits you. Locals are friendly However parts are hellish if you’re attempting to bike it. Even hiking the bike is dicey and dangerous. Our ortlieb saddle bags fell into the Delaware river at one point. We managed to fish them out by some kind of aquatic miracle It’s also full of Lyme disease carrying ticks so watch out The trail need a make over Any billionaires out there who have a spare penny to repair it, please help!

Heritage trail update!

Great trail a must do . FYI bridge #1,2,3,4 were under construction but are now complete and the trail is open complete . When in Monroe just before overpass there is a good burger and place called Wayback burger . You have to pedal through a gas station lot but it’s next door .

Wallkill Valley Rail Trail

worth the time & effort

October, 2024 by kaiser

Started 3 miles south of New Paltz & ride all the way to Kingston , plenty of places to eat & drink in New Paltz after that there is a farm brewery on your right going north & a little health food eatery in the middle of nowhere by a campsite on the left going north after that you come to get Rosendsle trestle , the mining caves ( you can feel the cold air mass as you ride by ) Once you get to Kingston you pedal via rroad to the town

River-to-Ridge Trail

D&H Rail Trail

Some of it is very nice, and some of is VERY rough

September, 2024 by chrisseier

Started in Simpson and headed north. The first 12 miles is very nice, except for the occasional noise from the ATV trail nearby. The next eight miles is a little rough, but not too bad. Then a mile of the trail was very soft, like they were working on the trail. After that, it becomes VERY rough - riding on balast. Some very nice scenery; has the potential to be a great trail - if they ever finish cindering the full length of the trail.

William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail

Hopewell Junction

September, 2024 by kaiser

Went from the Thuway area in Poughkeepsie over the walkway and ride to Hopewell junction .Nice trail well groomed , paved not much to look at but very cool what the volunteers did to the RR depot , signal house and pavilion, the depot museum was great . Went to Daddy O’s restaurant on the trail , good food . The NY empire trail continues along live tracks goes I believe quite far .
